Neurological Rehabilitation

The aim in the rehabilitation process is, in general, to live as independently as possible with the highest quality of life. The main purpose of physiotherapy is primarily to restore or improve the old function of the patient.

People with neurological diseases such as stroke, Parkinson's and Cerebral Palsy have difficulty performing daily activities such as walking, speaking and grasping. The reason why these people cannot do these movements is the damage of the disease to the nervous system. Although there is no obstacle in performing these movements mechanically, since the signals sent from the brain cannot be transmitted to the muscles sufficiently, it becomes difficult or even impossible to perform movements such as walking, speaking and grasping. The success of neurological rehabilitation used in the treatment of these diseases depends on the patient's ability to continue the given movements in his own living space.

It should be started as soon as possible, after the diagnosis of the disease or the patient's life-threatening situation. Although the characteristics of the evaluation made by the physiotherapist to obtain information about the functional level of the patient differ according to the diagnosis, age of the patient and perception status, they are basically similar to each other.

The treatment program determined according to the evaluation results should be guided by the patient's age, psychosocial status,  education and habits.

Purpose of Rehabilitation

The aim of rehabilitation is to increase the functional capacity of the patient, to reach the maximum level of competence and to return him to his former social life. For this reason, it is necessary to prevent, minimize and, if possible, eliminate the problems caused by the disease or that may occur later. The extent and level of injury and the quality of medical care and treatment are factors that require teamwork in rehabilitation. To guide the treatment program, it is necessary to know the level of injury. Although the general treatment method is the same, a special treatment program should be developed according to the level of injury, partial or complete incision.
